By CCN: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has been in the House of Representatives for just four months, but she’s developed an A-list political profile. From her bold claims about climate change and wage inequality to her incredible ability to connect with millennial voters, AOC has quickly become one of the most popular – and polarizing – politicians in the United States.
Wealthy Republican Donor Wants to Buy a Victory Against Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
For a 29-year-old, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has built quite a portfolio. She’s on TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People List, and she’s already the subject of a documentary. If she were old enough, she’d probably have put her hat in the ring to run against Donald Trump in 2020.
So, it’s no surprise that the Republican Party would do what it can to take her down. According to a report on the New York Post, a mystery multimillionaire donor worth more than $200 million is willing to break the bank to fund opposition candidates against her in the 2020 election.
The report mentions Ruth Papazian, a 61-year-old medical journalist who plans to run against AOC. Besides Papazian, Rich Valdes, a conservative talk radio producer, and John Cummings, a former NYPD officer who now teaches U.S. government classes at a high school in AOC’s Bronx district are other prospective contenders.

Here’s the thing about AOC: she’s built her reputation by being brash and unafraid to stand by what she believes in. Sadly, her power is also her curse; the extreme socialist beliefs that she holds dear – and which have endeared her to millions across America – are what make her so repulsive to millions of others as well.
We’ll leave the nitpicking over the specifics of the Green New Deal to the academics (you know, while climate change continues to worsen) but focus on this; while millions agree with her premise of climate change being an imminent threat and the rich having to do more to help, others (the rich, of course) see it as a death sentence for America’s capitalist foundations.
Republicans Have Met Their Match in AOC
So, in today’s world of party-over-people politics, it’s only right that this brash, defiant woman would step on the toes of the majority of Republican politicians.
AOC has been the subject of various Republican attacks. She was the star of the 2019 Conservative Political Action Conference, as almost every speech betrayed a perverse obsession with the freshman congresswoman from New York.
Even Donald Trump Jr. described her rise to fame as “pretty scary” while at a rally in Michigan back in March.
Still, even in the face of wave after wave of attacks, she’s not been one to take things lying down. While the noble – and frankly, unnecessary – “take the high road” mentality has cost the Democrats time and again, AOC’s message is simple: “Bring it on!”
AOC is one of few Democrats that Republicans have failed to muzzle. So it’s to be expected that they’ll do what they can to get rid of her when 2020 comes, and they’re doing so with the tool they know best: money.
At this point, anyone looking to run against Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the Bronx is chasing a lost cause. Still, that’s not going to stop the fat-cat Republicans from staging a challenge.
